The busiest stretch of Downtown Round Rock's calendar this October falls on weekdays. Starting Oct. 6, the City of Round Rock has free live music on Main Street at lunchtime on Tuesdays and Thursdays, an outdoor concert every Wednesday night, and an arts center that stays open until 8 p.m. on the same Wednesdays.
Weekends got something new too. A country-western room opened beside Alcove at the end of September. But if you live within a short drive of Main Street, the month gives you the most during the work week, and one exhibit has a deadline that comes up fast.
Tuesday and Thursday, 11:30 to 1:00
The Hometown Lunchtime Parklet Shows come back Tuesday, Oct. 6. City of Round Rock Arts and Culture hosts the series, and the music runs from blues and bluegrass to jazz, folk and country. Shows run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The city's own pitch is to grab lunch or an iced coffee from a local business, or to bring your own.
The shows rotate among four parklets, so where you sit depends on the day. Here's the October lineup from the city's schedule:
- Tuesday, Oct. 6: Ruby Dice at Parklet #1, on Main Street in front of Brass Tap
- Thursday, Oct. 8: Home At Last Trio at Parklet #2, the Downtown Paseo Stage
- Tuesday, Oct. 13: Mike Stinson at Parklet #3, the corner of Main Street in front of LampPost Coffee
- Thursday, Oct. 15: Undiskovered Trio at Parklet #4, the Griffith Building Paseo
- Tuesday, Oct. 20: Paul Val at Parklet #1, in front of Brass Tap
- Thursday, Oct. 22: Candi and the Muthaload at Parklet #2, the Downtown Paseo Stage
- Tuesday, Oct. 27: Woody Russell at Parklet #3, in front of LampPost Coffee
- Thursday, Oct. 29: Parklet #4, the Griffith Building Paseo
Two of the four spots sit right outside places that sell coffee or a pint. The other two are on the paseos around the Griffith Building. That's the same building as the City Arts Center, and it comes up again below. If you work from home in Round Rock, or your lunch break can stretch to 90 minutes, this is the first stretch of the year with a free show on your calendar twice a week. And it's on the same few blocks every time.
Wednesday Is the Night Everything Overlaps
Music on Main returns Wednesday, Oct. 7, and runs weekly from October into December. The concerts are free and family friendly. The city suggests bringing lawn chairs or picnic blankets, and a picnic or takeout from one of the nearby businesses. Parking is free throughout Downtown Round Rock, including the City Hall Parking Garage.
Here's why Wednesday matters more than the other weeknights. The City Arts Center is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., but on Wednesday nights it stays open until 8 p.m. Admission is free. That gives you the gallery and an outdoor concert on Main on the same evening, with one free parking spot covering both.
| Wednesday | Music on Main performer | City Arts Center |
|---|---|---|
| Oct. 7 | Cold Heart Cash | Open until 8 p.m.; Chihuly loan works and Ziesook You exhibit on view |
| Oct. 14 | Broken Arrow Band | Open until 8 p.m.; permanent Chihuly chandelier on view |
| Oct. 21 | Encore | Open until 8 p.m.; permanent Chihuly chandelier on view |
| Oct. 28 | Rock House | Open until 8 p.m.; permanent Chihuly chandelier on view |
The series keeps going into November with Lix Box on Nov. 4, Dysfunkshun Junkshun on Nov. 11 and The JAMS Band ATX on Nov. 18. December brings MicroBus, Fusion Band ATX, Agent Echo Band and The Clutch Kings, wrapping up Dec. 23.
In the table, only the first Wednesday has the full gallery, and that's because of a date on the arts center's own calendar.
One Week Left on the Loaned Chihuly Works
The City Arts Center opened in January 2026 inside the renovated Griffith Building at 216 E. Main St. Over the decades, that building has been a fire station, an auto shop, City Hall offices and, most famously, the Round Rock Public Library. The renovation gave the gallery two-story ceilings.
The centerpiece is Dale Chihuly's Ruby Sunstone Pineapple Chandelier, made for this space after Round Rock City Council approved it in December 2025. It's 9 feet tall and hangs from the two-story ceiling. It's built from more than 200 individually hand-blown glass elements, weighs about 460 pounds, and took a Chihuly Studio team four days to install piece by piece. Hotel occupancy tax funds paid for it, money that comes from visitors staying in Round Rock hotels. The city says it's the first Chihuly installation on public view in the Austin metropolitan area.
Chihuly explained the pineapple theme in the city's announcement:
"The vibrant colors and pineapple-inspired forms in the sculpture are a nod to the city's identity and welcoming hospitality."
The chandelier is permanent. The exhibit around it is temporary. The selection of works on loan from Chihuly Studio, including 3D glass pieces and 2D paintings, is on view through Oct. 10, 2026. Round Rock-based artist Ziesook You's exhibit, "Scents of Austin," closes the same day.
Oct. 10 is a Saturday, so the full show has one late Wednesday left, Oct. 7, plus regular daytime hours through that Saturday. If you've been saving the gallery for a quieter week, the Music on Main opener is the last evening you can see the chandelier with the rest of the Chihuly works around it.
Weekends Picked Up a New Room at 117A
The weekday calendar is mostly city-run. The newest addition to downtown weekends came from a business that has been on Main Street for ten years.
Alcove, at 117 and 119 E. Main St., went back to its original name in late September after operating as Sociedad. Owners Michelle Ly and Erik Hall opened an expanded venue space called The Fair on Sept. 25. According to Community Impact, it's a country-western room with a stage, a pool table, a full bar and the existing Alcove menu.
The space at 117A E. Main St. opened up this spring when Vintage Salon moved out after 10 years there. Alcove was already using 117B as its lounge, and the landlord offered it 117A as well. Erik Hall built out the new room with a rustic, country-western feel, a change of pace from the lounge next door. The Fair hosts private events and is open to the public on weekends when nothing is booked. Groups can rent either room or both.
That "when nothing is booked" condition matters if you're planning a Saturday around it. Alcove's events calendar lists live music, DJ nights and karaoke. Alcove also won Best Karaoke in the 2025 Best of Round Rock awards and posts upcoming shows on Instagram at @alcovecantinarr. If you're thinking of booking The Fair for a holiday party, now is the time to ask about dates, while it's still new.
The Month Ends on the Same Few Blocks
Two late-October dates bring the weekday crowd and the weekend crowd back to the stretch of Main Street where the parklet shows have been all month.
Mainly Art, Saturday, Oct. 24, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Artists set up in the Downtown Paseo next to the City Arts Center at 216 E. Main St. The series features 15 different visual artists each month and gives more than 120 artists a year a chance to show and sell their work. One outside listing puts the October market on Oct. 31. The city's schedule says Oct. 24, and that's the date to plan around. Later fall dates are Nov. 21 and Dec. 19.
Hometown Halloween, Friday, Oct. 30, 3 to 7 p.m. The event takes over East Main Street downtown. The Go Round Rock listing describes trick-or-treating at participating businesses on the 100 and 200 blocks, plus face painting, balloon art, live music, giveaways and train rides. The city's page says more details are still to come, so check it the week of the event for the final lineup.
Hometown Halloween runs the day after the last parklet show of the month, on Oct. 29 at the Griffith Building Paseo, and two days after Rock House closes out October's Music on Main. It all happens on the same short stretch of Main Street, with the same free parking garage at City Hall.
